Employee Retreat? Why You Should Forget Air Travel for a Better Alternative

Posted on

If you are in charge of a growing organisation, you know that your people are crucial to your success. You may be getting ready for a significant expansion and realise that you have to get them all on your side. Consequently, you may be thinking about organising a corporate retreat at a beautiful location, where you can work on employee bonding and bring everyone together for the greater cause. You've got lots of details to plan but should think carefully about your transportation options as these could work in your favour if you choose correctly.

More Productive

Remember, this type of trip is all about getting people to interact with each other as much as possible. You've got to build camaraderie so that they will be very receptive to your new program and be as productive as possible when they get back. Consequently, you need to do whatever you can to make this happen from the moment that they leave to the time they return, and this will include the hours they spend in transportation.

Friendly Skies?

You may think that air transport is the best solution as it's a lot quicker and may be looking at prices for this option. However, much of this time may be wasted from an interaction point of view as people battle their way through security and deal with taxis. When they get to sit on the plane, they won't necessarily be close to each other anyway, and this is not exactly a good start from a networking perspective.

Captive Audience

You will be much better off chartering a bus, so you can control all of this time and create an environment that is conducive to interactivity and networking. There won't be any other people on the bus to disturb, and you'll be able to work on your captive audience by showing them a video while they travel, as a teaser for your new project.

Fresher Condition

When you consider air travel you have to look at it in total and include the wasted time previously mentioned. Taking everything into account, they may still arrive at your venue in reasonable time if they travel on the bus and will probably be less "frazzled."

Think of the Money

Last but by no means least, think about the cost savings. Your bus charter will be considerably less than the price of buying individual tickets combined with reimbursement for taxis or airport parking charges.
